5.0 out of 5 stars Great NAS, January 8, 2012

I bought the 3TB version for ~$240 and I am very happy with it. I also considered the Synology DS212j but that is ~$200 without disks.

I use it for the following functions:
-To store and stream media to my Apple TV (2nd gen with xbmc)
-As a time machine backup disk for my Mac
-As a torrent downloader (client comes installed, is fast and easy to use)

I was initially using it with a Belkin N750 Router but was having some problems - my Mac's console revealed that the smb connection would drop and reconnect after every minute and this led to choppy/unreliable video playback. However, I suspected that this was the router's fault since this also happened... Read more

After running out of space on my laptop and my WD passport 1 TB, I was tired of USB cabled hard drives so I did my research and found Buffalo Linkstation Live as well as the WD My Book Live. The reviews on the WD were not the best, with alot of people complaining of faults so I decided to go with Buffalo.

Setting it up was so easy, I didn't think it would be so easy. I connected the device to my wireless router with the ethernet cable that comes in the box then I used the CD that came in the box to install the software needed. All I did was press next a couple of times and voila the NAS was ready to use. You have to use the NAS Navigator software that you installed to tell your laptop to connect to the NAS. Once you do that you can map the NAS to a drive on "my computer". It mapped the NAS to the M drive and now its like I have an extra partition or hard drive on my laptop.

I started to copy my movies and tv shows to the NAS using terracopy. I was getting speeds... Read more

The device is top notch, but the Web Access is a bit convoluted. After several fits and starts, I was able to get it to work. However, as the user (not computer savy) messed with it at first, I had to change the name in order to do so (I guess it was still hung up on the original name).

Other than that quirk, there are no problems with it. I guess the lesson is do it right the first time.
