My (Home) network consists of 12 computers, three "Box Office" media players, this unit and an attached USB 2 TB drive.

The unit comes set to 192.168.1.66:1010, which has caused me problems with some routers. After turning the NUS1000 on, it reconfigured itself to 192.168.0.xx:1010 and I could then configure the rest of the options. The documentation with the unit is a 25 page manual, which is pretty well written.

I attached a USB 2TB Fantom drive (USB eSATA), I am able to watch the same movie at the same time on 2 of the Box Office media players. I have not tried 3 yet, I would assume that would also work.

The write-only NTFS partition is to me a welcome safe guard against someone unknowingly (or intentionally) writing to the drive. When I add movies, I connect the drive through the eSATA connection on the drive itself.

For video traffic usage, this is by far the most straight forward and least expensive way to bring up USB drives (up to 4 2TB drives) onto a network.

It provides for several different server types, but I just used the File Server.

I bought this item as I wanted a NAS adapter that would allow me to use my USB drives on my network. I looked at others and many have reliability issues, need a web subscription, or installation of software to access the drive from the network. The NUS1000 is a small self contained NAS server with capability to handle four 2tb drives so it looked like my best option. Speed tests indicate I'm getting about 4MB/s write 4.5MB/s read through my USB drives which isn't the fastest but is suitable for me to watch videos, listen to music, and do document sharing. The nice part being if I want to load up the drive faster, I can choose to unplug it from the NAS and plug it directly into the USB on my PC. I bought this to sub in for my Lacie NAS which the PSU seems to have shorted and am pretty happy with the purchase.

I was amazed by just how easy this was to set up and use. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Installed two 1TB drives and a Brother HL-2140 printer and was up and going within an hour. Most of the setup time was taken up in moving data that was already on the drives to a temp location so they could be reformatted to FAT32. Would have preferred NTFS, but I knew the limitation going in and I did not have the budget for a more expensive solution. If you prep your drives in advance, so they are already formatted (or ready to format), the install will take you about 5 minutes.

The iTunes server and Media servers work great. Have not tried the password protected file server or the web server.

The printer install was the biggest surprise. My old server stopped working so the fact that this product allowed me to network my external drives AND replace the print server was a huge plus. The original device setup was so convoluted and annoying, and the printer would never show up on my network. With the NUS1000 it was amazingly simple and it worked the first time I tried it. The instructions for Windows XP and Vista/Windows 7 made it easy to set up printing on all my PCs.

I've only had this running for a week, but so far it has exceeded my expectations.
